COSSA
Computer Science Students Association (COSSA), is a student organization
formed by the Department for managing and organizing various co-curricular
activities. It is guided by the Head of the Department. It organizes timely
seminars, workshops, festival celebrations and other activities. There are
various units working under COSSA for efficient and effective handling through
its Placement Cell, Alumni Association, Academic Activity Cell, and Environmental
Committee etc. COSSA also helps students to develop and reinforce their personality
and confidence level by encouraging them to present seminars, develop their
organizing skills and improve their management capabilities.
Some of the seminars conducted during the last academic year are:
- Seminar on Intentional Programming' by Mr. John Plaice, Asst. Prof., University of New South Wales, Australia.
- Seminar on Data Fusion' by Dr. Raoul, NAL, Bangalore.
- Seminar on Mobile Computing' by Mr. Arun Nair, Seimens, Bangalore.
- Seminar on Agent Technology and Artificial Societies' by Dr. Srinivasan,
IIITMK.
From the year 2000 the strength of M.Sc Computer Science course was increased from 14 to 30 students. The M.Tech (Image Processing) programme was revived during the time and a new batch with 18 students was started in 2001.
The output of the department increased from 14 to 48. The department enjoys the privilege of being the nearest computer training center to the Software Technology Park Trivandrum. So the placements for the previous batches were 100%. But now due to the recession and increase in the number of student strength COSSA felt the necessity to form a placement call and hence a placement cell has been setup by COSSA during April 2002.
