The main objective of the M.Sc. Computer Science course is to provide the students a clear understanding of the basic concepts and principles of Computer Science as a discipline and the rich and specialized skill sets required to handle the computing systems in an applied branch of knowledge that represent a realistic world. All aspects of knowledge acquisition, storage, processing, presentation and transition will be covered in the course. Provision for advanced knowledge in Computer Science, exposure to the practical and theoretical concepts of computing, current and emerging trends in technology in the context of networking environment are the major attractions of the programme. The course covers almost all the core subjects in Computer Science like Design and Analysis of Algorithm, Network Programming, OOP, Software Engineering, Database Concepts etc, in addition to a few elective subjects. The Case Studies in all the three semesters intensively focus on the systematic design and implementation of various technological applications through which the students attain the skills in system development and team spirit. As part of the course, the students are advised to take live projects of six month duration from established institutions for implementation during their project term. On completion of the course, the successful students will be awarded a Master of Computer Science with concentration either in Computer Networks or in Artificial Intelligence. The M.Sc. Computer Science programme was introduced in 1989 in the University of Kerala. More than one and half decades of experience has gone into the design of the revised scheme & syllabus.

Eligibility/Qualification : Candidates shall be required to possess First class Bachelors Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/Electronics with not less than 60% marks or an equivalent degree recognized by the University of Kerala.
Admission Procedure: There will be a entrance test of two hours and has two parts. The first part is objective type consisting of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 1 hour and the second part consist of 15 short answer questions, out of which, 10 are to be answered in the remaining 1 hour. The questions will be at the level of the qualifying bachelors degree course. Medium of examination is English. A rank list will be prepared by giving weightage for marks secured in the entrance examination and the marks secured in the concerned subjects at the degree level. Bonus marks for NCC, NSS etc. will be as per existing norms. The marks scored in the entrance examination can be known from the university web site and shall also be intimated if self addressed post card is attached to the application form. A separate memo card will be sent to the candidates from the Department after preparing the rank list.
